Our Board
We are governed by a Board of Directors comprised of community volunteers. The Board works closely with the Executive Director to ensure that FCS services remain high quality, affordable, and responsive to community needs.
Dr. Adam Kurtz
Adam grew up in Athens and attended Clarke County Schools, as did his children. He has served the community as a law enforcement officer and is currently in public education, where he sees the need for high quality mental health resources for children & families firsthand. He enjoys being a part of the Family Counseling Service Board so that he can be a supportive part of the solution and bring an awareness of the services offered into his professional sphere.

Dr. Jason Edwards
Dr. Jason Edwards is a Public Service Faculty Member at UGA’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development. He designs & facilitates leadership development programs for K-12 students, educators, & school leaders to strengthen school culture, elevate student voice, & build leadership capacity. His research focuses on university-community engagement, leadership development, and service-learning. His scholarship earned a national Award for Excellence in Engaged Scholarship from the Engaged Scholarship Consortium, and he serves in national leadership and peer-review roles within the field of university-community engagement. Dr. Edwards is deeply committed to service in his community. He serves as Vice President of the Board for Family Counseling Services of Athens, volunteers weekly with the Clarke County Mentor Program, and is a lector at the UGA Catholic Center. He was selected for the 2025 Georgia Forward Young Gamechangers Program. Dr. Edwards also received the UGA President’s Fulfilling the Dream Award, a university-wide honor recognizing individuals whose work advances Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of equality, justice, and community service.

Dr. Amy Heesacker
Dr. Amy Heesacker is a Georgia Licensed Psychologist inn private practice inn Athens. She graduated with her Doctorate in Counseling and Developmental Psychology from the University of Notre Dame in 1997. Amy enjoys working with her clients to help them develop a story of their lives that serves to empower & and inspire them. As a former therapist and supervisor at FCS, Amy feels her Board membership allows her to continue to support the mission of FCS and stay connected with her former colleagues.
Dr. Carolyn Hally
Not only is Dr. Hally a Board Member, but she was also the first employee at FCS! Dr. Hally received her undergraduate degree from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, her MSW from the University of Georgia, and her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia. Her professional experience includes: Social Work Assistant for Children’s Hospital with Harvard Medical School; Clinical Social Worker at Family Counseling Service; Social Work Consultant for Banks, Commerce, Jackson Nursing Home and Athens Convalescent Center, Heritage Nursing Home; Research Associate for the Institute of SociaL Welfare, UGA School of Social Work; Lecturer in Clinical Issues for Emory Medical School, Department of Nursing and Division of Continuing Education; private practice providing individual, marital, family, and sexual therapy.
William Fleenor
Will Fleenor is the Solicitor General of Athens-Clarke County, taking office after being elected in 2022. He has been with the Solicitor’s Office since 2010, spending five years as a VAWA-funded, domestic violence prosecutor, two years as a DUI prosecutor, and six years at the Chief Assistant Solicitor. During his time with the Solicitor’s Office, he has served as co-chair of the Western Judicial Circuit’s Domestic Violence Task Force and chair of the Circuit’s DUI Task Force. Since 2017, he has represented the Solicitor’s Office in three accountability courts: Veteran’s Court, Mental Health Court (TAC), and misdemeanor DUI/Drug Court. He is currently a faculty member with AllRise (formerly NADCP) and has presented at annual conferences for PAC, the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, and the Council of Accountability Court Judges (CACJ). Prior to his time with the Solicitor’s Office, he spent a year as a staff attorney for a Superior Court Judge and two years as an Assistant Public Defender in Macon, Georgia. He lives in Athens with his wife and their two daughters.
Gina Jackson
Gina is a native Athenian who graduated from the University of North Georgia with a major in Human Services Delivery & Administration with a minor Sociology. Currently, she is the Youth & Family Program Director at the Athens YMCA. Gina’s personal mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of youth and their families. Her career focus on youth and families is consistent with the numerous positions she has held during her 20-year tenure with the Athens YMCA.
As a Family Counseling Board Member, Gina is inspired to continue to enhance the lives of the youth and their Families through the board’s emphasis on the importance of good mental health. Gina is a true champion for the youth and families in the Athens-Clarke County Community.
